Making investments in our community
The CLT Alliance and a coalition of elected, community, and business leaders helped pass the P.A.V.E. Act and spearheaded the successful transportation referendum campaign, unlocking a 1% sales tax that will deliver transformative investments in roads, rail, and bus across Mecklenburg County for the next 30 years. These are the investments being made across Mecklenburg County:
Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority
In 2026, the MPTA established its governance and interlocal agreements, laid out the CATS-to-MPTA transition, launched FY2027 budget development and defined policies ahead of the July one-cent sales tax rollout, and advanced transit planning.

Investing in the future
Following passage of a transportation referendum by voters in November, Mecklenburg County is looking ahead to investing in its future. New buses and upgraded stops, micro transit zones, commuter rail and light rail, and intersection improvements and road upgrades are all on the way.
The nearly $20 billion to be invested in Mecklenburg County means jobs and opportunities as well. Projects get underway later this year and hundreds of jobs will be available in the next five years.
